running

Today's run was tough.  My run sunday (1 hour) seemed like no big deal.  Today's run was a big deal, I'm glad I was only planning on  a half hour and finished with 1/2 hour walk for good measure.  I was pretty tired last night and crashed about 8:30pm only to be wakened by a 9:15pm phone call... it took me another 2 hours to get to sleep.  I'm really trying to shift to a 9pm-5am sleep pattern so that I can get a workout in before work.  Tonight, Patricia took me to Jak's for my b-day dinner...I must say it was pretty terrific!

Monday, December 29th

This morning's workout was the spin bike.  I haven't been on the spin bike in a couple of weeks, so it was definitely difficult.  I was on the bike for 1 hour.  I'm starting to wonder if I could run two days in a row.  I'd like to get back to 2 workouts a day (at least a couple of days a week).  I'm guessing with my history of leg issues (stress fractures and a break) it is probably smart to stick to running every other day for a a few months.  So my best bet is to swim after work or go for a ride after work and stick to alternating running with spinning in the mornings.

Sunday
I've decided that I have to work out as soon as I get up in the morning...before I get distracted or run errands or hang with friends.  I figure that I need to workout in the morning, even if I have plans to do something later in the day.  So Sunday I got up, made coffee and ran on the treadmill.  5 minute warm up, 50 min run followed by a 5 minute cool down.  Breakfast (with coffee) was a nice treat after my workout.

I decided to go check out the Colonnade.  I've never ridden there and since it is mostly covered it should be dry and hopefully fun.  The colonnade was very cool.  I haven't mountain biked in a while (at least nothing technical) so I was a bit timid.  I decided not to wear my armor and full face helmet...I decided too much plastic courage might not be a good thing on the first day.  I really enjoyed the pump track (of course I was very successful at it...so what is not to enjoy!)  I was a bit timid on the switchbacks; thus I spent about 30 minutes ridding in very small circles and working on my track stands.  Then I headed back to the switchbacks and rode a couple that originally looked too scary to ride.  I'm heading back there with Joseph next weekend and I might head there one day this week, since I'm off work and really don't have much to do.

I'm off work till the 5th of January.  It is a huge benefit of working for the University.  I'm enjoying my time off.  I have no plans other than workout in the morning.  My main objective is to get some good rest.  In January I start my last quarter of school.  It will be good to start it really rested.
